The Champlain College Health Room (CCM 209)
A work in progress, this room is a project I took on for my final semester of college at Champlain. Conferring with Diana Clayton, the Medical Director of the Student Health Center, we discussed the purpose of the room and how we want users to feel while in it. The space is meant to be a refuge for people who need a quiet and private area to administer their own health needs, with special attention for people who are breastfeeding and need a lactation area.
We took inspiration from Mamavas, often found in large public areas such as airports and shopping malls. The client’s room requirements are to have a refrigerator, a comfortable chair, mood/background lighting, some sort of wall art or decor, as well as a table or drawers. The room already had a sink and a baby changing table, both of which are being kept in the same spots.
The following images are a rendering of a potential idea for the space. We are keeping the room very calming and ambient, almost like an escape or respite from the rest of the world.
